The Book That Scared Me So Much I Slept With the Lights On

What’s a book or movie that genuinely scared you?

Mine was The Amityville Horror.

I watched the movie in a theater with a friend who was really into horror movies. Afterward, my friend and I were discussing the movie with some of our classmates when this rather nerdy, somewhat quirky classmate overheard us and casually mentioned that there was a pig in the story.

A pig? What pig?

At first, we made fun of him because we thought he must have been talking about a completely different movie. But then he showed us the book and offered to let us borrow it.

And, of course, we took it.

I think I managed to get through two pages. TWO. I couldn’t finish it. I was so scared I had to sleep with the lights on for two straight weeks. 😂

Looking back, I think that random conversation about the pig made the whole thing even creepier. Sometimes, it’s the little details you weren’t expecting that get to you the most.
